MY CHOCOLATE MAPLE-RUM DIET MILK SHAKE
I enjoy one of these every night when I am dieting. It fills in nicely that sugar-craving
void I experience when my diet eliminates all refined sugar and fats. This simple, easy
shake seems to round out such diets. It is my treat at the end of the day, an hour or two
before it is time to go to bed. This is really not a milk shake per se in that it does not
contain any ice cream. However it really does possess a light velvety smoothness
reminiscent of a real milk shake if you use a premium nonfat dry milk powder such as
SANALAC. If you use any kind of regular liquid milk (like the kind poured from a
container) this recipe will only taste like flavored milk. It is imperative that you find a
good, premium nonfat dry powdered milk to use in this recipe. Premium powdered milk
such as SANALAC does not have that funny scorched taste that most common brands of
powdered milk possess. Do not use them. There is a big difference in taste between
common brands of powdered milk and a good premium brand. The premium brands are
more expensive but taste a lot more like the regular milk that we are all used to. If you
follow these directions exactly, step by step, you will render yourself a special diet treat.
One-eighth cup HOT tap water
One and one-half LEVEL Tbs. of plain powdered baking cocoa (Hershey’s is the best)
3 cups of ice cold water from the refrigerator (preferably filtered)
One-half cup of PREMIUM nonfat dry milk powder such as SANALAC
5 packets of EQUAL brand no calorie sweetener (use no other brand)
5 drops of imitation maple extract
5 drops of imitation rum extract
1 straw
Run the hot water from your tap until it gets its hottest. Measure one-eighth cup of this
running hot water into a large 32 ounce tumbler.
Next quickly put in one and one-half
LEVEL Tbs. of plain powdered baking cocoa (Hershey’s is the best).
Using any long
spoon stir the powdered cocoa and hot water until the cocoa is COMPLETELY dissolved
in the tumbler. The hot water is simply used to pre-dissolve the cocoa in your tumbler. If
you wait too long the hot water will cool too much and lose its ability to effectively
dissolve the cocoa.
Once your cocoa is dissolved in your big drinking tumbler, pour in 3
cups of ice cold water (pre-chilled in your refrigerator).
Stir well using your long spoon.
Next add one-half cup of SANALAC or any premium nonfat dry milk powder.
This is
the tricky part. Using your long spoon you must stir the dry milk powder into the cocoa
liquid in the tumbler briskly until the milk powder is COMPLETELY dissolved.
Making
this recipe in a blender is a fine option but it is not really necessary. However, a blender
will assure a very fine blend of the milk powder into the mixture if you have trouble.
After your milk powder is all mixed in then you can add your sweetener. Just pour in 5
packets of EQUAL brand no calorie sweetener. NO OTHER BRAND WORKS WELL.
Mix again well.
Next add about 5 drops of imitation maple extract and about 5 drops of
imitation rum extract and mix once again well.
Finally, add your straw!
Enjoy.
